    Handfasting bands

    Three of a set of seven silk handfasting bands, in 3/1 twill. The patterns include various Celtic knotworks, the Tree of Life, and a personalised bindrune.
  • “Variations on Birka”

    “Variations on Birka”

    The patterns on this band are loosely based on finds from Birka, Sweden. It is woven with baby alpaca wool. I wove this band mostly to experiment with the possibilities that this threading offers.
  • “Wardruna”

    “Wardruna”

    A wool band in missed-hole technique. The knotwork and dragon designs are based on finds from Birka, Sweden. The bindrune is the logo of the Norwegian band Wardruna. I wove this band as a gift for Einar Selvik, the creative genius of Wardruna. Since missed-hole works best for diagonal lines, I devised a technique that allowed me to weave the perfectly straight vertical line needed for the bindrune logo.
  • “Hallstatt III”

    “Hallstatt III”

    This wool band is based on archeological finds from the Celtic Iron Age, 800-400 B.C. found in a salt mine in Hallstatt, Austria. Like the original “Hallstatt III” band, it is done in pebble weave.

    This wool band is based on archeological finds from the Celtic Iron Age, 800-400 B.C. found in a salt mine in Hallstatt, Austria. Like the original “Hallstatt I” band, it is done in 3/1 twill.

  • "Dublin Dragons" (for sale)

    A wool band with dragon heads in pebble weave. The pattern is based on a brocaded band from Dublin, Ireland. 215 cm long.

  • "Promises in Silk"

    This set of seven handfasting bands is made with delicate silk, woven in 3/1 twill. The patterns include variations on the Celtic Eternity Knot, the Tree of Life, and a personal bindrune.
