A wool band in missed-hole technique. The knotwork and dragon designs are based on finds from Birka, Sweden. The bindrune is the logo of the Norwegian band Wardruna. I wove this band as a gift for Einar Selvik, the creative genius of Wardruna. Since missed-hole works best for diagonal lines, I devised a technique that allowed me to weave the perfectly straight vertical line needed for the bindrune logo.
This set of seven handfasting bands is made with delicate silk, woven in 3/1 twill. The patterns include variations on the Celtic Eternity Knot, the Tree of Life, and a personal bindrune. The seven different colours of the bands each carry their own symbolism. Photo by Patrick den Drijver (http://masqueobscura.format.com/)
